Howdy! Grigory and Ethan here from Berkeley, California. Together we run Alley Khimulya Enterprises, which is the place where we build stuff. We met living in the same dorm at Harvard and have been working together on everything for like 10 years. Back when we
were scientists full-time, we built
the first AI foundation model for proteins, made
AI tools for pandemic preparedness and worried about whether our science would actually amount to anything good in the real world. Later, we took a shot at doing things ourselves and started several companies, including Alvea, a startup that ran warp-speed clinical trials for pandemic response, which we co-CEO’d to raise over $25M and become the
fastest startup ever to go from founding to clinical trials with a new drug (Grigory did a
podcast on how if you’re curious). Neither of us had worked on a clinical trial before this - we discovered that making things happen with extreme speed and reliability in complex and highly regulated areas was super fun. And with a team of 40+ scattered around the world, we learned how powerful a group of talented, caring, bold people can be working together.
